Vindictive Grinus

Grinus' ashen skin and unaging body were proof he held a power seen as heretical aboard the Mother Ark. He was consequently banished to the lowest caste of society, where he was able to bond with others who were similarly scorned. Indeed, he praised the very rulers who condemned him, for they granted Grinus the opportunity to meet brothers in arms for whom he would gladly sacrifice himself.

Name originEdit

According to Greek historian Herodotus, Grinus or Grinnus, son of Aesanias, a descendant of Theras and king of the island of Thera, went to Delphi with a hundred-ox offering from the city; among the citizens accompanying him was Battus son of Polymnestus. When Grinus consulted the oracle on other matters, the priestess gave the response that he was to found a city in Libya. He replied, that he is too old for this task and want young ones to do so, as he spoke he pointed to Battus. On returning to Thera they took no notice of the oracle: they did not know where in the world Libya was, and did not dare to send out a colony into the unknown. However, for seven years after this there was no rain on Thera, and all but one of the trees on the island withered and died. Later people decided to listen to oracle and settle a colony, and choose Battus as their leader and king. Battus founded the Ancient Greek colony of Cyrenaica, the eastern coastal region of Libya, and its capital Cyrene.
