With the wings of a bat and long tentacles extending from his head, Berdue struck a fearsome guise which masked his relative weakness -- a band of five hardy warriors could effortlessly best him. For that reason, he relied upon his wits and cunning to survive. Concealing himself in the trees, he would hunt for lone travelers. Only when conditions were absolutely favorable would he act, and the slight possibility of failure even in attacking pairs meant he committed himself to patience.
