As i've mentioned to Beboper, I think the recent wiki activity module at the mainpage should be spilt into "recent wiki activity" and "recent trading post activity". This will make the activity feed less messy. A new namespace will be required in order to achieve this. Also, i think we should disable commenting on this page. This will require addition of js.
It's a little more complicated than that. A namespace is like a category name indicating where a page belongs. For example, the Help:Editing page has the namespace "Help" indicating that the page belongs to a category of help pages.
For the Trading Posts, the goal is to have something like "Trade:Trading Post" in order separate the page from the main namespace so that activity on it can be separated from the activity feed. This new namespace isn't currently a part of the wiki, so we'll need to request it after a consensus is reached.
This page shows more information on namespaces, and how they work.
So does everyone agree about message filtering on the front page? If there aren't any more comments, I'll assume everyone is on board with this. If that is the case, I'll put in a request to have the namespace "Trade" reserved for this wiki.
Wikia will be happy to create a new namespace for this purpose - we used to call it "Marketplace" in ZJ Wiki. By making it a non content namespace the right rail and the forum link will not show up so you will be able to make full use of the space as seen here.
I think I'll go to wikia and request the namespace as "Trade" since it's simpler. If no one replies to this thread in objection, I'll assume everyone at this wiki is fine with it. I'll wait a few days more just to make sure.
@DinoKev That's pretty cool. I hadn't thought about whether to make the namespace a non content one or not. I think it's best if the new namespace is considered a non content one then.
Also, while we're at it, does anyone mind if I take out a non content namespace called "Portal"? Since the game has three different versions now, all unique, it may be a good idea to create three different portal pages for all the versions (once we have unique content for each version that is). This would also allow different side menus for the community portal.
Here's the help page for custom namespaces. The use of portal is explained on that page. For the trade namespace we will have to specify that the namespace is non-content and with comment section enabled. So maybe we can rename the trade pages to "Trade:iOS" , "Trade:Android" etc. when the namespaces are created.
Oh right, forgot about comments. As for pagenames, I was thinking of renaming them to something like "Trade:iOS Post" and "Trade:Android Post". Would those work, or is simpler better?
@Congo1 I was hoping to create portal pages similar to Fallout Wiki, which has seperate portals for each of the Fallout games. This way, we can create specific portals for the iOS, Android, and Facebook versions of the game. As well, this would also allow our community portal to have side menus, similar to Fallout wiki.
It is a seperate game, and a very different one at that (tried it out for the heck of it). Even so, the official Facebook page took the time to announce the Android version's arrival, so it's strange that they wouldn't even give a slight hint at it. Perhaps this is their way of managing traffic to help prevent sever crashes to their Facebook game (or other technical reasons).
I'm going to be putting in a request to Wikia for the two namespaces mentioned here (Trade, Portal). Since no one else has commented, I'll assume the rest of the community is okay with it or they don't care either way.
Just letting you guys know that wiki has now filled out our request. I've updated the feed on the main page to reflect this. However, I'm having trouble creating a seperate feed for just the trading pages. I'll work on that and see if I can get it to work. If anybody knows how to do this, feel free to let know.
Sorry i just saw this, I just came back from a holiday. To create a separate feed for just the trading pages, filter out all the other pages except the trade namespace. I think if the namespace is non content, it will not show up anywhere on the wiki including in the wiki activity feed.
