The Sacrificial Festival is a Raid Event scheduled to start on May 1, 2020 at 8:00 PM (PST/PDT) and end on May 7, 2020 at 8:00 PM (PST/PDT). It is the ninety ninth episode of the Dark Stigma story and fiftieth in the Malice Canon storyline.

Half-time Reward Calculation Period is at May 3, 2020 from 8:00 PM to 8:59 PM (PST).

Prologue

The golden alcohol splashed gracefully into the glass, spreading the sweet scent of flower blossoms with a gentle fizz.

"Wow, I've never seen anyone drink as much Fairymead as your friend. But I can understand since today's the only day we serve it." The butterfly-shaped wings of the waitress fluttered playfully as she filled Salvador's cup for the sixth time, though he was already lying on the table with ruddy cheeks and closed eyes. You were surprised he had not yet fallen asleep. 

From the second-floor terrace of the tavern, you were presented with an excellent view of Mirazaghul, currently at the height of a festival known as Consecration Day. Unlike Salvador, you did not wish to spend a rare moment of relaxation inebriated. You contented yourself with the Fairymead's unique bouquet along with the joyous atmosphere and the refreshing breeze. Elimval, too, left her glass untouched, narrowing her eyes to focus on whatever caught her attention.

"This is quite a splendid place. I should've expected nothing less of the capital of the fairies. There are so many flowers in full bloom, it's almost like a dream..." Your party had only learned of the city's existence the day prior. Built deep in a forest to the east, it was normally covered by a magical barrier. However, the fairies opened it on this special day and invited all nearby to partake in the celebration. In your case, it was the waitress who had crossed your path while carrying glasses from her hometown to the tavern. The description she gave convinced you it would be a worthwhile chance to recuperate from battle.

"The main event is about to begin. It's a customary ritual for prosperity where everyone offers their magic power to Queen Titania. A long time ago, rulers would change after several years, but she has reigned for centuries now. To say she's amazing would be an understatement." As she chattered away about her queen, your eyes happened to glance down at your glass. The liquid reflected the tree branches above, laden with ripening fruit nestled among white flowers in full glory. However, the soothing wind suddenly grew tepid. Something was amiss.

"You should drink up, too." You turned back toward the waitress, but in the next moment your leapt to your feet, unsheathed your sword, and pulled Elimval behind you. You pointed your blade at the smiling woman to protect Salvador still on the table, but she retained her poise.

"You are indeed worthy of drawing Her Greatness' attention. One who has confounded empire for so long would be as sharp as you." With those words, she began to fade away. It seemed she was an illusion created by one of Queen Titania's servants.

"The proceedings call for a sacrifice. That unimaginable honor of giving your power to Queen Titania will soon be yours..." You attacked before she finished speaking, but your sword passed through nothing but thin black smoke. A hurried attempt to rouse Salvador proved similarly in vain as his eyes remained shut. You knew he could hold his liquor, so you suspected the drinks had been altered to make it easier to capture you. More dark smoke wafted from below; the queen's servants were approaching. You had to leave at once.

The celebration's jovial facade hid more bloodshed than you realized. Cursing your negligence, you lifted Salvador onto your back and told Elimval to stay close before running down the stairs. Your first priority was to find something to bring Salvador to his senses. The second was to stop Queen Titania's twisted ceremony.

Epilogue

An ominous wind rustled the trees above Mirazaghul as the mortal festival continued. The fruit carried by their blossom-studded branches had spared Salvador from the poison that threatened his life. Its revitalizing properties would have gone unnoticed were it not for the hint ironically provided by the reflection in the same vile liquid he had imbibed.

After forcing the Lightholders to retreat, you refocused upon fighting Queen Titania and her soldiers. However, after another bout of intense combat, she suddenly issued the command to stand down.

"Why do you resist, warrior? Why continue this struggle to survive?" Her question was conveyed with an air of calm, free of the aggression from moments ago.

"I know everything. I know of your reputation as well as its undeservedness. I know your struggles and sacrifices to break free of those false accusations. That was why I brought you here. I knew it was your limitless power that carried you this far, and I wanted it for myself." Though she explained her question, you were no less reluctant to answer. Rather, it convinced you there was an ulterior motive behind her gentle smile. As if noting your wariness, she resumed speaking.

"Understandable though your doubt may be, there is no need for it. My purpose is clear. To attain it, I need power. That is why I have sought to amass it for years on end. But you would let me achieve that goal instantly, destroying Ildanev and reigning over his empire."

Your pulse quickened. It seemed you held a shared enemy in Emperor Ildanev, the very one who had accused you of murdering a goddess.

"Yes, your goal and my goal are the same. That is precisely why I cannot understand your resistance. By offering up your strength to me, I could succeed much sooner and more efficiently than your motley band of rebels." You wanted to accept Queen Titania's proposal until you soon realized it too was one of her sly techniques, just as the poisoned mead and the dumbfounding illusions. Summoning all of your willpower, you thrust your blade towards her in defiance. You could not surrender your battle. No matter how difficult the journey became, if you held fast to faith in your allies and true justice, you would not only reach Ildanev but defeat him.

Moreover, the queen's attempt to kill your most trusted ally since coming to this world was reason enough to spurn her, but the ritualistic seizing of her own kindred's power turned your stomach. Even if she did attain the strength to overthrow the empire, any who held such little regard for life did not have justice on their side. And without justice, there would be no victory.

Queen Titania looked not at your blade but the pure conviction within your eyes. After a few moments, she gave a sigh of resignation.

"I will show deference to the nobility and fortitude of your spirit, but know there will come a time when those same qualities will hinder you from your goal." With those words, the winds suddenly grew stronger. They quickly built into the intensity of a tornado, forcing your eyes shut, but it was not long before the calm returned. You looked to find you were now in a sunlit plain carpeted in verdure. Not a trace of the fairies' city, their queen, or the scent of the flowers remained. The festival had come to an end.

Ensuring that Salvador could walk again, you then resumed your journey. As you did, the cryptic warning of Queen Titania echoed within your mind...
