Sterling, Off to War

The night raid threw the castle guards into disarray. If it had been the typical band of thugs, that would have been one thing. But it was Sterling, the kingdom's own champion, who led the charge. The soldiers quaked in confusion, wondering what had come over their former ally. Wielding his greatsword, Sterling swatted them aside like flies. "Sorry, but the battlefield awaits me," he murmured as he stood over the unconscious men.

Name OriginEdit

Sterling is a masculine name of English origin; the meaning is "genuine, of high quality". Also variant of a name meaning "easterner" given to pre-medieval refiners of silver, given in reference to the English word sterling meaning "excellent". In this case, the word derives from sterling silver, which was so named because of the emblem that some Norman coins bore, from Old English term meaning "little star".
