Spiritual Waters is a Raid Event scheduled to start on June 1, 2023 at (8:00 PM (PST/PDT) and end on June 7, 2023 at 8:00 PM (PST/PDT). It is the one hundred seventy third episode of the Dark Stigma story and eighty seventh in the Malice Canon storyline.
Half-time Reward Calculation Period is at June 3, 2023 from 8:00 PM to 8:59 PM (PST/PDT).

Prologue[]
All who entered the cave containing the Font of Mujule wore anxious expressions. This was understandable; a once-in-a-lifetime chance awaited them. The calm spring was connected to the underworld, allowing the Font Medium to call spirits of the visitors' loved ones. Faces thought never to be seen again would rise to the surface of the water. Countless people trekked to this remote region for the miraculous opportunity, but it had limits.
The Font granted only a single request per person, and the spirit, once summoned, could refuse to speak -- siblings who died over inheritances, lovers who died from heartbreak, and the like. Visitors feared their precious wish would be squandered, making them entirely dependent upon the Font Medium's persuasiveness. That role, historically belonging to the Ragil tribe for generations, was currently held by Megwyna. She earned fame for her skill in untangling complexities between the living and the dead.
Most famous of her success stories was the reconciliation of the previous king and his late half-brother. Being of illegitimate birth, the half-brother was passed over for the throne even though he was first-born. He soon staged a coup which ended in his execution. Regardless, the king had admired him since youth and so harbored regret rather than anger. He visited the Font of Mujule in order to make amends, but the spirit of the executed brother was naturally reluctant to speak. Their relationship was saved only for Megwyna's gentle words, and she was hailed as the greatest of all Font Mediums.
Word of this and other remarkable feats spread. Although the assurance she offered was forgotten at the sight of the looming cave mouth, the lengthy line of supplicants continued to grow. This came to an abrupt end two months prior, when Megwyna suddenly vanished.
On that day, she had made a request of the Font at a visitor's behest as always, but a fearsome demon instead of a human spirit. That request was placed by the daughter of the executed half-brother. Even if he had reconciled with the king, her heart still lusted for vengeance. The demon seized Megwyna and dragged her into the water where the netherworld waited beyond.
No one knew what became of her. There were intense arguments if she was dead or alive, driving unrest ever higher. Then, something happened that caused further alarm: Megwyna reemerged from the Font of Mujule unharmed along with her abductor. Soldiers were sent to investigate, but the demon killed most of their party. Knowing her gentle nature, it was hard to believe she would tolerate such savagery.
A new debate started if she was truly Megwyna or not. Citizens from peasants to nobles demanded the Font's cave be sealed. However, the king wanted to learn the truth. He called for you to solve the mystery and, if necessary, kill them both...
Epilogue[]
Immediately after Megwyna and the demon returned, the previous king's niece responsible for the entire incident was questioned. She cackled triumphantly, asserting they were the same ones who vanished months ago. It seemed she had made a contract with the demon to do whatever he wished with Megwyna as long as she was gone. The demon agreed, desirous of a human soul rich in spiritual power.
"If she's still alive, he must have decided using her to take more souls was a better idea!" Being the sole witness to Megwyna's disappearance, the niece's words held some credence, but personal observation told you differently. The way they glanced at each other as if out of concern hinted they were cooperating. Additionally, you noticed his body briefly wavered before he swung his blade, just like an incorporeal spirit.
"I see you finally realized." Megwyna's voice echoed through the cavern as she relaxed her guard, clearly having followed your gaze.
"It's obvious to me now that further resistance won't accomplish anything. Defeating you would merely invite another group of soldiers."
The Font Medium seemed to be addressing her own impending fate. I'm certain you're curious why we fight together. That's because I love him. He's the only one I've ever known who has asked nothing of me."
She shut her eyes tight. "Day after day, I was required to obey the requests of countless visitors due to the nature of my position. I even stopped questioning that routine... until he came."
The demon was quite long-lived, and staving off his demise needed a soul rich in spiritual power. For this reason, he readily agreed to the abduction, but he apparently had a change of heart.
"I never expected I would return alive, so I decided to give him my soul before he asked. Still, he still refused to take anything from me since arriving in the netherworld. That was when I realized he wanted to protect me... because he had fallen in love."
Megwyna, knowing unconditional affection for the first time, also began to feel attached to him. "After he passed away, I came back to use the Font and recover his spirit. I wished to be with him for as long as possible through any means... including violence."
She then brought the demon's sword to her throat and directed her words towards him. "This world has refused to accept either of us. It seems we will only find peace on the other side."
The edge slid across her skin before you could move. The demon stood in silence, watching her life ebb away...

Stained by Megwyna's blood, spirits no longer appeared from the Font of Mujule. When the next medium failed to cleanse the waters, the king ordered the entire cave sealed so the netherworld path would not be abused...
