Seacloud Hegemony is a Raid Event scheduled to start on September 1, 2022 at 8:00 PM (PST/PDT) and end on September 7, 2022 at 8:00 PM (PST/PDT). It is the one hundred fifty fifth episode of the Dark Stigma story and seventy eighth in the Malice Canon storyline.

Prologue

Queen Vim ruled the Skyborne -- a group of seafolk who left the southern ocean for the air. In her luxurious private chamber of the floating palace, she stared at the beautiful ring upon her finger. The honey-colored gold wrapped around a gem that resembled the eye of a dragon, glinting like the waves below her. She leaned out the window to better compare them while whispering a silent vow.

"These waters will soon become mine." The seafolk of the south were different from the western kind. Fair of appearance and noble of spirit, they had built a rich history that radiated from their grand capital. However, this changed roughly one hundred years ago with a split into two factions: the Skyborne and the Seaborne.

The Skyborne were largely comprised of warriors determined to control the air. Borrowing the magical arts of their relations to the west, they transformed their shapely fins into wings and flew from the water's embrace. Vim was the direct descendant of the house which spearheaded that exodus.

The Seaborne, left behind in the ocean, objected to such actions. Their leader reportedly said soon after the schism that the dark magic tainted the Skyborne's souls as well as their bodies.

"What nonsense. I admit I find myself longing for the peace of the ocean at times, but our dominion has flourished unceasingly." Idle words fell from her lips. Indeed, the Skyborne enjoyed prosperity never been seen among the Seaborne. Her great-grandmother had been the one to discover and establish their aerial island home. The stately walled city she built continued its development under Vim.

"If I ruled the underwater capital, it would flourish as we have." Her eyes fell upon the ring once more. In conquering both realms, the south seafolk would be rejoined, but she needed the Dragoneye Ring in order to make that vision a reality. After a number of skirmishes against the Seaborne, she was finally able to obtain it. The time was ripe. She called her three generals and barked an order.

"Bring me the Spirit Reservoir!" All three immediately understood she intended to launch a full-scale invasion. They bowed in unison, did a smart about-face, and marched out to begin preparations.

"I will finally unleash the Aquarrow upon those sea dwellers." She gently rubbed the ring's jewel, already savoring her victory. The upcoming clash was but a formality. There was no doubt in her mind that she would complete the hegemony.

Epilogue

"The Skyborne's use of dark arts have stained their very souls." Queen Vim suddenly recalled the Seaborne chief's historic phrase as the Spirit Reservoir crumbled before her eyes. She did not understand why her plans ended so tragically. Surely, the fault was not hers, or so the notion that flashed in her mind claimed.

She had intended to make a hegemony and reunite the southern seafolk, but the Seaborne's allies led by one known as the Hero tore across the battlefield to stop her at the last moment. A shockingly precise attack through the chaos shattered the Spirit Reservoir... and her ambitions with it. 

That had been their treasured article since leaving for the clouds, allowing the wearer of the Seaborne's Dragoneye Ring to draw limitless Aquarrows from the mouth. Containing enough magical energy to kill a seafolk with a single bolt, they formed the pillar of Vim's assault. This determination to destroy every last one of her enemies was reflected in how adamant she was to obtain the ring from its guardian beast, Lacetas. With both artifacts in her grasp, it fell to reason that both realms would be hers as well.

Yet the Hero had thwarted her, enduring not only her soldiers but her Aquarrows as well. Moreover, a squadron of pegasus knights from Ganquia to the west soon followed as reinforcements. It seemed they were the Hero's allies. Though a small country, they had gained much from their conquest of Adni, and their military might now surpassed the Skyborne's in all likelihood.

Ganquia and the Hero, both experienced against the western seafolk's sinister magic, standing with the Seaborne forced Vim to admit her prospects of victory were nonexistent. By the end of the day, her army had made a complete withdrawal.

......

Several days later, it was hard to imagine an invasive war had ever occurred. The Dragoneye Ring still glistened like the water's reflection, but it lost much of its beauty to Queen Vim. Indeed, she now regretted owning it, for it only served as a reminder that the true brilliance of the seas below would never be hers. The failed assault was hardly a bump in the Skyborne's path to glory, but in her mind, their aerial city was nothing more than a gilded prison.

In contrast, the Seaborne could swim throughout the boundless ocean reaches. Her battles to obtain the ring gave her a taste of that heady sensation. With her mind cleared of ambition, she finally realized it was what she sought all along -- the freedom her forerunners surrendered a hundred years ago.

"The Skyborne's use of dark arts have stained their very souls." Perhaps those words predicted how empty she, and maybe all Skyborne, would feel. Vim reflected on that emptiness as she sat alone by the window of her luxurious chamber. Just like she sat there yesterday, just like she will sit there tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that...
