There was no clearer symbol of her past arrogance than the bloodstone imbedded in Schalit's chest. Her friend Renoir had managed to plant it into the cavity opened by the failed experiment, but she was clearly tormented by feelings of guilt at the consequences her friends had to bear. While she knew their bond was all the stronger because of that second heart, it also brought her no small amount of pain.
