Everyone marveled at Rupert's sleight of hand with looks of surprise and delight. So enthralling were his performances that it was purported the dead would come back to life to witness them. Though most of his repertoire consisted of tried-and-true classics, none were able to discern his methods. Rupert knew that the basics of all sorcery lay in such rudimentary conjuring, which meant that nothing was beyond his range of possibilities.

Rupert is a Dutch, English, German, and Polish masculine name and surname of German origin; the meaning is "bright fame, bright famous one; famously famous". From the Old Germanic name Hrodebert meaning "bright fame", derived from the Germanic elements hrod "fame, renown" and beraht "bright". It is therefore a variation of modern English Robert.
