Lore[]
Mariassa had grown accustomed to what others called "persecution". It was only natural that they fear her ability to cause spotaneous combustion, and even she wondered if she would not aggrieve someone with her abilities were she also normal. However, it was meeting a young orphan, stricken by epidemic, that ultimately turned her stoic view to anger. Unlike the rest of the world, Mariassa found she was unable to forsake the child, and she felt empowerment of rage for the first time.

Name origin[]
Mariassa is a variant of an Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English feminine name Marisa, a combination of Maria (Hebrew Miryam "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness" or "wished for child") and Spanish and Italian Luisa (feminine form of Luis, derived from Germanic elements hlud "fame, loud" and wig "fighter, warrior"). Or else could be a variant of Greek and English Maris "of the sea", taken from the Latin title of the Virgin Mary, Stella Maris, meaning "star of the sea".
