Horned Knight Vann

Vann sought the most obstinate of opponents, the preceptor of assassins and the one whom they called "The Great Matron," Waltraud. Many an influential person feared that name, and as a result the bounty on her head could provide a man vast riches. All the more reason why it was difficult to catch sight of even her shadow. People fell silent at the very mention of her name, and fresh information was a rarity. It became clear to Vann that any who knew her revered her, and their silence was to protect the one for which they so cared.

Vann (Van) is used chiefly in the English language, and its origin is Celtic and Old English. In English it's a topographic name and surname for someone who lived by a fen or marsh. The name is of debated origin; it could have first developed from Vance or Ivan; also a short form of names containing van. As a surname prefix, it means 'of' or 'from' in Dutch.
