Name origin[]

Clotilda is an English derivative of the French and Italian Clotilde of Old German origin; the meaning is "famous battle", derived from Germanic name Chlotichilda which was composed of the elements hlud "fame" and hild "battle". Saint Clothilde was the wife of Frankish King Clovis I in the sixth century, and supposedly went into battle by his side and, in her later years, was known for her almsgiving and penitential works of mercy.
