Lazar was an unfortunate man, unable to live anywhere save for the limbo between life and death, which happened to be where the endless battle between gods and demons raged. Amongst the chaos, he saw the souls of mortals who had perished before their time crossing into the Netherworld, and so he selflessly volunteered to serve as a gatekeeper to prevent the premature passing of others.
