To obtain the strength apropos of a true champion and fend off the unending onslaught of darkness, Arcturus sought out the divine blade Durandal. Upon discovering it lodged into the summit of a small island of stone, he attempted to extract it only to find it held fast. Seized by desperation, he instead resorted to improper methods to force the sword free. However, that action earned him the god's wrath and the curse they placed upon their sacred weapon warped him beyond humanity, instilling within Arcturus a profound regret.
