Ancestral Whispers is a Raid Event scheduled to start on November 1, 2021 at 8:00 PM (PDT/PST) and end on November 7, 2021 at 7:00 PM (PST). It is the one hundred thirty fifth episode of the Dark Stigma story and sixty eighth in the Malice Canon storyline.

Half-time Reward Calculation Period is at November 3, 2021 from 8:00 PM to 8:59 PM (PDT/PST).

Prologue

Today was supposed to be the most joyous event in Erion's history. The suffering under generations of tyrants would end with the king abdicating rule to his beautiful, compassionate daughter. It was nothing short of a miracle that the ruthless bloodline had produced its exact antithesis, and the ecstatic atmosphere of the coronation ceremony reflected that all present were aware of this.

In ancient times, a demonic warlord by the name of Eriong invaded a human nation. After subjugating its people and changing its name, he took a queen who begat him a half-human, half-demon child. That started a legacy of all Erion royalty possessing some measure of dark power, and it came to be known as a kingdom of darkness.

Eriong's progeny also shared his cruelty, ensuring the chain of oppression continued unbroken. Shariala's father was no different, and the masses continued their slave-life existence with no hope of release.

When Shariala was born, there was a grand celebration held at the castle, and over a thousand civilians were killed as part of the proceedings. He claimed it was in sacrifice to Eriong, but it was clearly no more than entertainment. Ceremonies in Erion had little pomp and regality, largely serving to indulge the nobility's sadism.

Tortured for endless years, the populace no longer had the will to resist this abuse. They thought the nightmarish agony would continue forever. None expected the young princess to change anything... until she began to show them glimpses of hope.

As she grew up, Shariala's heart seemed to mirror the beauty of her physique. She cast affectionate eyes towards others and gave hints she understood the importance of cooperation. In the months prior to her coronation, she was seen in all corners of the land helping the most destitute. The people held such admiration that they wept at the mere thought of her.

Naturally, her father abhorred those charitable works, and they quarreled again and again. However, he could not fight the ravages of age, and he was forced to hand over the crown after he contracted a serious illness. This set the stage for very first coronation the public had ever awaited.

Once Shariala became queen, Erion would have a ruler who truly cared for its people. The crowd rejoiced as she approached the throne. That day should have ended with that same jubilation, light shining bright over the kingdom of darkness.

This was all until the moment she took the symbol of rule, the Blade of Eriong, in her hands...

Epilogue

Queen Shariala of Erion, who once promised to be a compassionate ruler, upheld the cruel observance of brutality. In fact, the profound despair that arose during the coronation ceremony when she took the ancestral Blade of Eriong in hand and lost all vestige of mercy was what drew your attention to the dark kingdom.

Horrified by what you saw, you fought to liberate the people even as the Lightholders suddenly intruded. You managed to succeed in forcing the imperial soldiers to retreat and cornering Shariala just as the sun crested the horizon.

"As long as I can hear the words of my ancestor, I will not be defeated." Though at a clear disadvantage, she boldly pointed the Blade of Eriong at you. This granted you a closer look at the devilish face on the hilt. Its lifelike appearance gave the impression it truly could speak at any moment. If that was supposed to depict the founding ancestor, Eriong, then Shariala's remark held an important clue.

The Blade of Eriong ensured the founder's oppressive reign would continue regardless of who sat on the throne. The method itself was yet unclear, but that face was undoubtedly key. However, before you could think too deeply, Shariala began to release an ominous aura as if preparing a deathblow.

Realizing her intent, you charged to attack first. The arc of your blade flashed swift and sure -- not to strike Shariala, but the Blade of Eriong. That demonic overlord's countenance was now shattered beyond recognition.

"What have I done?" In the same moment you destroyed the possessed hilt, Shariala lost the will to fight. Indeed, from her dazed expression, it appeared she had awoken from a long dream. She then recounted her story in a pained voice.

"When I took the sword from my father that day, he died. I was so shocked that I hardly realized a strange voice talking to me. It was the soul of Eriong, residing in that blade. He manipulated whoever became ruler for the continued fulfillment of his desires. Unfortunately, by the time I knew what was happening, I had already fallen under his power."

Her tearstained face then showed an expression of resolve. "But with it destroyed, you also crushed his ambitions. Now, I'm able to do what I must to let my people thrive. It's the least I can do to show my gratitude to you as well."

Looking into her eyes, you could see the evil demon's influence had been replaced with the hope and intensity of the rising sun. The curtain of darkness would be lifted from Erion after untold generations, giving way to Shariala's warmth.
