Only the sylph Adeus is permitted to cloak herself within that red mantle, a divine garb woven from sacred, purified threads. As she raises her hand the cloth flutters as if it possesses a will of its own, then the sky darkens and the ground trembles. She is clad in the garment given power by a high-ranking deity, a power that dates back to before even the birth of legends. Thus, creating the calmest peace is as easy as bringing about the most unrelenting chaos. Whether she chooses to destroy or create, however, is a choice entrusted solely to her.

Name origin[]
Sylph (also called sylphid) is a mythological spirit of the air. The term originates in the Swiss German alchemist Paracelsus, who describes sylphs as invisible beings of the air, his elementals of air. Because of their association with the ballet La Sylphide, where sylphs are identified with fairies and the medieval legends of fairyland, as well as a confusion with other "airy spirits", a slender girl may be referred to as a sylph. Sylph has passed into general language as a term for minor spirits, elementals, or faeries of the air. Fantasy authors will sometimes employ sylphs in their fiction, for example creating giant artistic clouds in the skies with airy wings.
Adeus translates from Portuguese as "bye, goodbye, farewell".
