(Unjust) Bernard, Charging Tyrant

Lore

The act decreed by Bernard was easily one of the cruelest devised in history. Through it, the various generals and knights were given greater authority than even the most landed nobles, and all were mandated to swear absolute allegiance to The Charging Tyrant. "If you don't like it, you'll have to become strong enough to defeat me!" Bernard said as he took his seat on the throne. All bowed to him in reverence, for they knew that such a feat was all but impossible.

Name origin

Bernard is a masculine name of Old German origin; the meaning is "strong, brave as bear". A two-element name, it is from the elements ber meaning "bear" and hart "brave, hardy". Beornheard (Old English) and Berinhard (Germanic) are older forms. The name Bernadette (English and French) is the female form.

A tyrant (Greek τύραννος, tyrannos "monarch, ruler of a polis") is a ruler of a horrible and oppressive character who is an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution, and/or one who has usurped legitimate sovereignty. A tyrant usually controls almost everything. In Latin it came as tyrannus, meaning "illegitimate ruler".
