A furred figure scampered among the treetops. Her lithe form possessed keen eyesight, sharp hearing, and surprising strength. She was Averill, one of the Scurrius, a race of squirrel-like beastfolk. They were rulers of this forest, diligent and hardy, and Averill stood out even among their peculiar kind. Her innocent appearance belied the power that could single-handedly repel a pack of wolves.

Averill is an English surname. It probably derived from the Old English female given name Eoforhild (eofor "boar" and hild "battle"), but maybe also from the Old French avrill meaning "April", perhaps indicating a person who was baptized in that month.
