Bertrand's ultimate goal is to remold the world into his ideal of an unending maelstrom. His swords can rend the fabric of space, increasing the flow of degeneration. Anything that touches his armor similarly experiences rapid breakdown, as he absorbs any leftover essence. Since such power is disadvantageous to his grand scheme, he has graciously spent eons by himself to minimize damage.
