Hyriel was imprisoned in the Skybound Temple, reserved only for the most intractable of demons. It once held a number of other malefactors, but they all fell to the unceasing march of time, leaving her utterly alone.

Name origin[]
Hyriel is probably combined from the element hyr and suffix -el meaning "god" in Hebrew (originally el is a Northwest Semitic word meaning "deity"), in which most angel names end. Hyr is possibly an Icelandic poetic term for "fire" or Cornish word for "long".
