Why must the gods kill people? Divine punishment was dealt to the inhabitants of the Cursed Kingdom. Shemhaza had long watched over the people, and to her this was an unforgivable act. "Is this really the justice of the gods? To kill all those who don't comply?" She could not accept the gods' self-righteous sense of justice. "Very well. I shall cast away my white wings!"
