Twenty years ago, the Imperial capital was thrown into chaos by revolt. In the midst of the fighting, a young girl was separated from her family and sheltered by kindly temple clergy. Stricken with amnesia from trauma, the one remnant of her parents was an intricate jeweled egg. The priests assumed she was royalty of some kind, but her tattered rags convinced them it was nothing more than a bauble. They named the girl Annette and she grew wise and beautiful under their care. However, after two decades, a faint sliver of memory returned to her that would change her life. She recalled there was a hidden lock on the egg. When she undid it, a brilliant light shone forth. It was an imperial treasure, proof she held the right of succession.
