Animi and Biggs waged war against the death gods, knowingly protecting the souls of the wicked from their judgment in the process. Animi, having borne witness to the poaching of countless helpless souls at the death gods' hands, and the kind-hearted Biggs who loathed killing, chose to resist their lonely destinies. Before long, their friends and cohorts became miraculously able to fend off death, and the two found themselves in plentiful company.

Animi is a plural form of Latin noun animus meaning "mind, soul, life force" or "courage, will".
