The goddesses of destiny measured out the length of all mortal lifespans. When their end came, they would be visited by a death god who tore the bond between body and soul. The greatest of these undertakers, Thanatos, handled the demise of rulers. As a result, anyone with royal blood regarded her as an object of fear.
