One of the many angelic duties was the punishment of sin, yet rather than carry it out, Insteile believed that her virtuous mind had the power of influence, bringing about the same piety in others and purging the very root of transgression. However, she then pierced a thief with the spear -- coated in the blood of the gods -- as divine punishment, and its sanctity caused him burst into flame. As his mournful cries echoed in her ears, she ruminated upon why the gods demanded such a cruel fate, and her pure soul was stained.
