Votan was originally the general of a mercenary army. His success in pushing back the ice queen's forces after a generations-long deadlock allowed him to seize the vacant land and establish new rule. As expected, he was not gifted with diplomatic tact, resulting in strained relations with his frosty neighbors to the north until well after his reign. Regardless, he was an exemplary warrior and thus welcomed into Valhalla.
