After living out half the year in the netherworld, Proserpina was allowed to return to the surface and dispel the oppressive influence of the netherworld from the land. She filled the world with sunshine, and smote any lingering traces of evil she discovered with her lightning sword. Spring lightning storms are signs of her anger.
