An ancient sultan received a massive army from the Djinn. However, unable to provide the promised mountain of gold, he tried to use that military might to destroy the spirit. The enraged Djinn then transformed him into a duplicate of himself and trapped him inside the lamp. There he remained for thousands of years until he forgot his own name and became a true Djinn.
